This batch starts in
Counting down to Mon 23 Nov 2026, 18:30. When it hits zero, this batch is in session.
Beginners.
Speaking from session one.
Absolute beginners, live online, Monday evenings with Ana. Sixteen places, one teacher, and a promise printed on week one's slides: nobody gets left behind, and nobody hides — cameras on, microphones warm, everyone speaks in every session.
The course is built for people learning around work. Sessions are recorded for catch-up, homework is one voice note a week (marked by Ana, returned before Monday), and the workbook arrives by post before the course starts.
By week ten you'll introduce yourself, order dinner, ask for directions and hold a five-minute conversation — the foundations the A2 and B1 courses are built on, with the same teacher all the way up.
How the
course runs
Same shape every week: teaching first, then practice with the teacher close by. Open a block to see what you will do — and what you leave with.
Sounds before rules: greetings, names, and the alphabet as it's actually pronounced. Numbers, days and times — the timetable vocabulary.
You leave with: a self-introduction recorded on your phone.
The verb ser, nationalities and jobs. Describing yourself and your family without a script — pair work from the first session.
You leave with: your family described, out loud, in Spanish.
Present-tense regular verbs via your real routine. Telling the time properly, and the café lesson every beginner deserves.
You leave with: a full café order, role-played and repeated at speed.
Where things are, what your town has, and asking for what you need. Tener and hay, learned by using them on a map of Leeds.
You leave with: directions given and understood, live.
Likes, dislikes and free time with gustar and friends. Weather, plans with ir a, and your first real five-minute conversations.
You leave with: a five-minute conversation, start to finish.
A friendly assessed conversation with Ana — ten minutes, unscripted — plus your route to A2 and B1 mapped out over coffee (online, bring your own).
You leave with: your conversation recording and A2 route map.

Your teacher
Ana Beltrán
Ana trained as a language teacher in Seville and has taught in Leeds for nine years, the last six at Meridian. She runs every Spanish course on the timetable and the French conversation groups when Claire is away.
Her rule is simple: nobody leaves a session without speaking. Classes are built around real exchanges — market haggling, phone calls, arguments about football — with the grammar pulled out of what you just tried to say, not the other way round.

Good to know before session one
- The workbook arrives by post before session one — check your address on the enquiry form is right.
- Sessions are recorded for catch-up; live is better, recordings are the safety net.
- Homework is one voice note a week — two minutes, marked by Ana herself.
- Same teacher all the way up: Ana teaches A1, A2 and B1, so your Spanish has one accent of correction.
