Read like
an examiner.

Sixteen Wednesdays of GCSE English Language, taught by a former head of department who now teaches groups of twenty instead of classes of thirty-two. Sarah marks everything herself and returns it with comments your teenager will actually read.

Sessions alternate between reading and writing weeks, with timed work from week three onwards. The group is hybrid — Room 3 in Leeds, streamed and recorded — so a missed week is a recording, not a gap.

Parents get a short written progress note after every mock. The course covers the full Language specification; Literature texts are covered in the school-holiday intensives listed on the workshops page.

How the
course runs

Same shape every week: teaching first, then practice with the teacher close by. Open a block to see what you will do — and what you leave with.

A diagnostic paper first. Then Paper 1's reading questions dissected: what the mark scheme actually rewards, question by question.

You leave with: your diagnostic, marked, with a topic plan.

Macbeth and the anthology: quotation banks built properly, comparison structure, and writing about context without waffling about it.

You leave with: two timed essays at target grade.

The 19th-century novel and Paper 2's unseen texts. Extract analysis under time pressure, every single week.

You leave with: an unseen-text routine you can run on anything.

Transactional and creative writing that scores: structure, vocabulary tiers, and the punctuation examiners notice. Spelling patterns for the most-lost marks.

You leave with: two writing pieces rewritten to grade standard.

Three full mocks across both papers, marked walk-throughs, and a one-page personal plan for the final fortnight.

You leave with: three marked mocks and a revision plan.

Your teacher

Sarah Lindqvist

Sarah was head of maths at a Leeds secondary school for seven years before joining Meridian to teach smaller groups. She teaches both GCSE courses — maths on Mondays, English on Wednesdays — and marks every mock paper herself.

Her courses run backwards from the exam date: past papers from week three, timed practice every fortnight, and a full mock under exam conditions before the real thing. Parents get a short written progress note after every mock.

Good to know before session one

  • Bring your set texts if your school has issued them; quotation banks are provided either way.
  • Every essay is marked by Sarah and returned within a week, comments in the margin throughout.
  • Hybrid weeks: join in Room 3 or online — timed work is set and collected the same way.
  • Literature texts are covered in the holiday intensives on the workshops page.
